The Edge forms a prominent frontage beside Ulster University. Thornton joined during ECI before assuming full Contractor Design Portion responsibility.
The package included fibre-cement rainscreen, Kalzip high-level cladding, built-up felt and podium waterproofing, soffits, louvres, davit arms, fall arrest and cavity barriers.
Early surveys found the superstructure outside tolerance. Bracketry and supports were redesigned to absorb the variance while retaining true external lines.
Fire-engineer coordination, EWS1 traceability, height-limited access, minimal storage and an occupied neighbour demanded just-in-time delivery, mast-climber planning and bespoke scaffold.
The envelope meets fire, thermal and weathering requirements, with sectional handovers and digital QA maintaining progress and full installation traceability.
